New Balance have just dropped the latest update in their range, FuelCell Rebel v5 is the FuelCell line’s latest innovation. A limited-edition colourway was followed by the main colourway which is available from today on newbalance.co.za for R3499.

The FuelCell Rebel v5 is a big change from v4 which we reviewed, most importantly adding midsole bounce with a 5mm increase in stack height, front and back, plus a snugger more secure upper. This makes the range's snappy non-plated racer trainer more mainstream, suiting a wider audience who seek a lighter more responsive ride.
V5 runners will still feel some of that snappy transition to your toes with the more aggressive rocker, but now with increased responsiveness and energy return from its thicker PEBA blended midsole. Its breathable upper and defiantly bold design makes it their choice for runners looking for speed, logging everyday mileage, and standing out in the pack.
The plateless, lighter weight FuelCell Rebel was designed to be ready to go from the first step. The midsole is energetic without being overly aggressive, like it’s nudging you forward with a wink instead of a shove. The increase in materials make it marginally heavier by 7 grams which means it’s still responsive enough for workouts, but forgiving you for accidentally turning your “easy run” into a Strava segment audition. The upper is light and breathable, fitting closer to the foot but keeping New Balance's recognised width comfort for most runners. This shoe was crafted to look and feel fast, lightweight and responsive.
