Return to SA Road Cycling

On the back of an exciting global season cycling in SA is back with a bang!

After a quiet, testing 18 months some of our best & brightest just put pedal to the metal up north where the air is thin and the riders faast!

The Tshwane Classic on 23 May, and the Gauteng Road Champs on 29 & 30 May saw our amped elite roadies fight the frosted Highveld conditions to reignite the covid-struck local cycling scene.

Most notable was the team shake up with riders donning new team colours, sparking an exciting race stacked year ahead.

ProTouch Continental showed their pedigree in Tshwane with four riders in the top five as well as the overall win.

Rohan du Ploy crossed the line first, followed by teammate Gustav Basson with TEG rider Louis Visser rounding out the podium.

In the ladies race Team Peak rider Emma Pallant came home first with Sánnara Grove of Customized Cycling in second and Kim Le Court of Liqui Molly in third.

The Gauteng Road Champs took place the following weekend with the TT race on Sat 29 May and the road race on Sun 30 May.

It was another winning weekend for ProTouch with Callum Ormiston taking top honours with teammate Gustav Basson in second and team Enza Construction David Maree in third.

On the ladies side, Carla Oberholzer of Demacon took first place followed by Mari-Zane De Kock of TEG, and Cycle Nation rider Joanna Van De Winkel.
