Finally there's light after dark!
We've had a bumper comeback month for Tri in SA and sheez louise did we need it!
24 April saw the toughest triathletes take on the iconic Race2Stanford supported by SEESA in absolutely sublime record setting conditions. R2S poster boy Matt Trautman made it 3 wins in 3 starts after a monster bike effort finishing SA's toughest ultra distance race in 4:17:14. Newly crowned SA Champ Annah Watkinson was head and shoulders above a power ladies field winning in record time, just 4 months after a devastating accident to prove that class is permanent.
As if that wasn't enough, a week later Matt and Annah both made it two wins in 8 days by claiming the top steps at the PTO supported Sun City Ultra on 2 May.
SA's ultra distance flag bearers held off the likes of Michael Ferreira, Kyle Buckingham, Magda Nieuwoudt, and Mariella Sawyer.
This past weekend saw some short distance racing for CTTA (Western Province) Olympic Champs at the Goli Blue Lagoon in cold windy conditions. Powerhouse rising star from Matrix Multisport James McCallum carried his R2S runner up form on fast flat Blue Lagoon bike course to win while fellow MM pocket-rocked Natia Gous used her experience, Zwift dialled aero bike position, and blistering hill work on the run to finish 10 minutes ahead of next quickest Kelly van der Toorn who's now hot on the comeback trail.
We can't wait to see what else these swim-bike-run supremos have in store for us in Durbs!
