The Salomon Ultra Glide 4 builds on the brand’s max-cushion trail category with updates focused on reducing weight, improving breathability and maintaining long-distance comfort across varied terrain.
At the centre of the shoe is a high-stack midsole platform using Salomon’s energyFOAM compound, designed to deliver soft cushioning and consistent energy return over extended distances. With a stack height of 41mm at the heel and 35mm at the forefoot, combined with a 6mm drop, the Ultra Glide 4 sits firmly within the highly cushioned trail segment aimed at longer runs and ultra-distance efforts.
A key update in this version is the reworked upper. The Ultra Glide 4 replaces traditional TPU overlays with an engineered mesh construction that integrates reinforcement directly into the material. This design is intended to reduce overall weight while improving flexibility and airflow resulting in a lighter and more breathable fit. According to lab testing, the updated material also shows improved abrasion resistance compared to the previous version.
Underfoot, the shoe uses Salomon’s All-Terrain contaGRIP outsole with mid-depth lugs, designed to provide traction across a range of surfaces including hard-packed trails, loose terrain and wet conditions. This is paired with relieveSPHERE geometry, a design feature intended to distribute pressure more evenly underfoot and reduce the impact of repetitive loading over long distances.
Additional features include sensiFIT and endoFIT construction to support a secure and adaptive fit, along with a Quicklace system for streamlined adjustment. The combination of these elements aligns with the shoe’s positioning as a high-cushion, long-distance trail option that balances comfort, grip and durability.
With a listed weight of approximately 280g, the Ultra Glide 4 is slightly lighter than its predecessor, reinforcing its focus on delivering cushioning and protection without significantly increasing overall mass.
