The ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 28 continues the evolution of one of the brand’s most established cushioned road running shoes, with a clear focus on reducing weight while maintaining the plush, comfort-led ride the Nimbus series is known for.
Central to the update is ASICS’ FF BLAST PLUS midsole cushioning, which is designed to provide soft landings and a smoother, more effortless running feel. Shock absorption under the heel is handled by PureGEL, a lighter and softer evolution of ASICS’ traditional GEL technology, intended to deliver effective impact protection in a more refined form.
Compared to the previous model, the GEL-NIMBUS 28 is lighter, with men’s weight listed at 281g and women’s at 242g, representing a reduction of just over 20 grams from the GEL-NIMBUS 27. This weight saving has been achieved through a combination of updates across the shoe, including outsole construction, upper materials and heel design, while retaining the same overall stack height and an 8mm drop.
The upper moves to an engineered knit construction, designed to improve comfort and breathability while delivering a softer, more premium fit around the foot. A plush collar lining, updated eyelet loop design and a revised tongue loop construction are all intended to improve step-in comfort and ease of entry, while also contributing to a cleaner, more modern aesthetic.
Underfoot, the HYBRID ASICSGRIP outsole has been refined to maintain reliable traction and durability, supporting the shoe’s role as a high-mileage, everyday road running option.
Despite the reduced weight, the GEL-NIMBUS 28 remains positioned as a maximum-comfort daily trainer, aimed at runners seeking consistent cushioning and long-run comfort without unnecessary bulk.
