August was an exciting month for the Toyota Specialized Racing Team, filled with top-tier competition and notable performances across the globe. Matt Beers, Alex Miller, and Johan Van Zyl delivered impressive results and are already tackling a packed September calendar with renewed energy.
Matt Beers at the Leadville 100
Kicking off August, Matt Beers took on the Leadville 100 in Colorado, USA. This grueling 100-mile endurance race at high altitude is not for the faint-hearted, and Matt secured an impressive 7th place. Reflecting on the challenge, Matt said, "Leadville is always tough, but I gave it my all and am proud of the effort." His performance was a testament to his skill and endurance on the Specialized Epic S-Works.
Race to the Sea: A Toyota Specialized Team Success
Back in South Africa, Matt Beers teamed up with Alex Miller for the Race to the Sea in the Western Cape. Their synergy and determination saw Matt clinch 1st place, with Alex coming in 3rd. "It felt amazing to race at home again and finish on top of the podium," said Matt. Alex added, "Being on the podium with Matt after such a tough race is a huge highlight for me."
Johan Van Zyl at the World Championships
Johan Van Zyl represented the team at the XCO World Championships in Andorra, where he put on a commendable performance despite the tough competition. "Racing on the world stage in Andorra was an unforgettable experience. Every race teaches you something new," Johan said, taking the experience in stride as he looks forward to the rest of the season.
What’s Happening in September?
September has arrived, and the Toyota Specialized Team is already hard at work with several major races on the calendar:
Matt Beers is set to take on the Chequamegon race on the 14th of September in the USA. He will follow that up with the World Marathon Championships on the 21st of September, and finish off the month at The RAD USA on the 28th of September.
Alex Miller and Johan Van Zyl have kicked off September together at the Trailseeker Wellington on the 7th of September. Alex is also preparing for the XCM World Championships on the 21st of September (TBC) and will round out the month at Lake Placid on the 28th of September.
