Finding your way to the finish line at Cape Town Triathlon
By the time you begin the run, your body has already absorbed the demands of two disciplines. Muscles are tight and heart rate & breathing are elevated. Standing upright feels awkward & your legs need to adjust fast from cycling to running - a transition that always feels a little weird.

That’s why the opening kilometre of the run needs patience. Loosen up & settle in before you put the hammer down ⚒️
The run course winds through the pathways of Green Point Urban Park and around the stadium precinct, creating a route that is both spectator-friendly and fast. It’s pan flat which helps you build rhythm while the twists and turns through the park keep things engaging and energetic.
The sensation of ‘heavy legs’ stepping off the bike won’t last if you ease into your stride with short and quick steps with a hips forward upright posture to help your body transition from cycling mechanics back into a natural running rhythm. Find that flow fast.
Hydration points along the route offer a chance to grab cold energy on the go, to cool down and reset before pushing into the final kilometres.
This is where the atmosphere of the race really shines. Supporters line sections of the course as the music drifts across the park and fellow competitors encourage one another to dig deep for the last laps. It’s a uniquely Cape Town backdrop for the final push as you fly past the stadium with Table Mountain towering above the city.
Soon the finish chute appears & the crowd noise builds as the blue carpet comes into view. You cross the line after three disciplines with your arms raised - tired, exhilarated and proud. Because finishing a triathlon is never just about the race. It’s about the journey that brought you there 🏁🇿🇦👏🏽🏅
