New Balance Ellipse: expands the daily training line-up

The New Balance Ellipse arrives on 5 March as a new addition to the brand’s broader running portfolio. It’s positioned as a cushioned daily trainer intended to suit a wide spectrum of runners from those starting out to more experienced athletes looking for a recovery-focused option.

At the core of the Ellipse is a Fresh Foam X midsole platform, tuned here to deliver a softer more energetic underfoot feel. The geometry incorporates a noticeable rocker profile designed to encourage smoother transitions through the gait cycle and to support an easy, rolling ride during steady-paced efforts.

Stack height measures 37.8mm at the heel and 29.9mm at the forefoot, with an 8mm drop (all measurements approximate due to manufacturing variances). This places the Ellipse within the high-cushion category, offering substantial underfoot material while maintaining a listed weight of 274g for a men’s US 9.5 218g for a women’s US 7.

The upper uses engineered mesh aimed at balancing breathability and structure for everyday mileage. Additional comfort-focused details include a cushioned tongue and stretch laces intended to allow for easier on-foot adjustment. The overall construction reflects a design brief centred on sustained comfort across regular training sessions rather than race-day performance.

The Ellipse is shaped to provide a consistent fit through the midfoot and forefoot, aligning with its positioning as a general-use trainer within the New Balance line-up.

It will be available from 5 March at selected retail locations and online, with a suggested retail price of R2279.
