Triathlon Race Recovery

Time to prioritise post race recovery & we have you covered.

Triathlon asks a lot of the body, and after weeks of stacked swim sessions, bike miles and run kays, then a full gas dice, you need to give it love.

The race itself may only last a couple of hours but the fatigue that follows can linger if recovery is neglected.

This is why experienced triathletes often refer to recovery as the ‘fourth discipline’ of the sport. Once you cross the finish line your focus shifts from performance to restoration. Muscles that have powered you through the swim and bike and run need circulation and nutrients and time to repair and rebuild.

One of the simplest places to start is movement and circulation. Take a stroll to the recovery zone & get your legs up & tummy full.

Nutrition plays an important role

Endurance racing depletes glycogen stores and places stress on muscle fibres so replenishing energy and providing the body with amino acids shortly after finishing helps support muscle repair and recovery.

At this year’s Cape Town Triathlon, athletes can take advantage of the BODYTEC Recovery Zone where post-race sessions will be available using Normatec compression technology. Normatec is widely used by professional athletes and uses dynamic compression and pulse massage to stimulate circulation in the legs which helps reduce soreness and refresh tired muscles after heavy exertion.

Refuel the tanks

Biogen will be supporting athletes at Cape Town Triathlon with their Pure Recovery Sports Recovery Drink, formulated specifically for endurance athletes. The blend combines whey protein, carbohydrates and electrolytes and helps replenish glycogen stores, support muscle repair and restore fluid balance after hours of racing.

Taking a few minutes to prioritise recovery after the finish line celebrations can make a big difference in how your body feels later that day and in the week that follows. Keep moving, hydrate steadily, refuel, and give your legs a chance to recover properly.

Triathlon may have three disciplines but the smartest athletes know the fourth one starts the moment you cross the line.
