Nike wrapped up an energising week of activations at 70 Bree Street, turning the heart of the city into a full-on jol where runners and crews soaked up the stoke of the streets.

From Wednesday, 15 October to Sunday, 19 October, Nike brought the vibe with an immersive line-up of experiences that celebrated running culture, connection, and creativity in the lead-up to the marathon weekend. Over five days, Nike brought together athletes, local running crews, and fitness enthusiasts for a series of shake-out runs, panel discussions, and social sessions that bottled up the energy and joy of movement.

Members of the community got to test-drive Nike’s latest running innovations, including the Pegasus Premium, Vomero Plus, and Structure 26 — then grab a coffee or an ice-cold drink while DJs kept the beats flowing. The mix of movement, music, and post-run hangouts turned 70 Bree into more of a runner’s café than a showroom.

The activations also featured insightful conversations with athletes, coaches, and run crews, unpacking topics like tapering, pacing, and mental preparation, offering valuable tips to runners ahead of race day. The week saw participation from some of Johannesburg and Cape Town’s most vibrant running crews, including The Pack, Home Run, and Not Late Running Club, creating a strong sense of camaraderie and shared motivation.

From sunset shake-out runs led by DJ duo Major League and Olympian Caster Semenya, to stretch sessions with Tshiamo and community gatherings, the takeover captured everything that makes running more than just a sport — a culture of endurance, self-expression, and unity.

By bringing runners together through shared experiences, Nike reminded everyone what it’s all about: community, movement, and pure joy. The 70 Bree Street takeover wrapped up on a high, proving once again that the running scene in Mzansi’s Mother City is alive, vibey, and kicking.
